ARM AND THIGH LIFT (BRACHIOPLASTY)
It is surgery to reduce the excess of fatty and cutaneous tissue on the inner side of the arm (also known as bat wings) or on the inner side of the thigh.
This surgery attempts to eliminate the unattractive loose skin that appears in these zones. Whether due to fatty accumulations or because of significant weight loss there are large amounts of sagging and skin flaccidity.
Blood analysis, electrocardiogram and X-ray are required.
General anaesthesia is usually used, but in milder cases it can be performed under local anaesthesia and intravenous sedation.
It is either an outpatient procedure (when performed with sedation) or it may require a hospital stay of 24 hours.
The surgery consists of performing an intense liposuction of the area until the fatty deposits are emptied, then the removal of excess skin tissue is performed. The resulting scar tends to be hidden in the inner area of the armpit, arm or in the line of the inguinal fold.
Surgery lasts approximately an hour and a half.

A compression sleeve or tights must be worn for about 3 weeks. The intradermal stitches are removed on the 12th day and then the patient is instructed to gradually begin normal activity.
One week after the operation, manual lymphatic drainage is recommended and when stitches are removed, the use of rosehip oil on the scar and sun protection cream is recommended for 6-8 months after the procedure.
Seroma may be a problem in some cases. When removing fat and taking out large amounts of skin tissue, seroma or serous fluid can form for a few days. Therefore, we tend to reduce surgical detachment and use compressive bands.
